FC Barcelona to get Memorial Area at the Camp Nou

25 January 2012 No Comment

FC Barcelona has announced an agreement for the construction of an area in the Camp Nou that will be used to remember deceased members of the club.

The spokesman for the board, Toni Freixa, announced the agreement with the company GIEM Sports for the construction of a Memorial Area at the Camp Nou. It will be located in the lateral zone, in the lower section of the terraces and “will be available for anybody with an affective association with FC Barcelona”. The management and commercialisation of this area will eb the responsibility of GIEM Sports.

Social and financial motives

Freixa explained the two reasons for this project. “The first is social, to cater for the members’ demands and also for former players to be able to take their association to the club beyond their own lives …

The second is economic, because the company will be providing some of the income to Barça”. The creation of the Memorial Area guarantees an advance of 6 million euros for the future exploitation of the space.

Some time during the next few weeks, the spokesman announced that FC Barcelona will be giving a press conference to explain the full extent of the deal with GIEM Sports.
