Manchester United signs Mister Potato deal
Premier League champions Manchester United have agreed a country-specific sponsorship deal with Malaysian snacks maker Mamee Double Decker Bhd.
Specifically the three-year tie-up with Manchester United is for Mamee Double Decker’s potato crisp brand, Mister Potato. Under terms of the agreement, Mister Potato will be able to use the club’s logo and images of players on branding and advertising in Malaysia.
Financial terms of the deal, which has been announced on Mister Potato’s website but not yet on Manchester United’s, have so far not been released.
‘Through our partnership with Manchester United, Mister Potato will bring you closer to delicious English and European football from now until 2014. Look out for exciting contests, great giveaways, free merchandise, and even a chance to meet the Manchester United team themselves, at Old Trafford,’ read a statement on Mister Potato’s website.
The new agreement is one of a number of country-specific deals that the club has agreed in recent months as is seen by many as an attempt to leverage the club’s popularity in South East Asia. Earlier in August Manchester United signalled their intentions to raise US$1 billion from an IPO in Singapore.
