West Brom & Bodog sign £2m shirt sponsor deal
West Bromwich Albion have announced the largest sponsorship deal in their history after agreeing a shirt and betting agreement with Bodog.
The two-year agreement sees Albion’s growing Premier League profile reflected in a club record sponsorship agreement, which has seen them break through the seven-figure barrier for annual earnings from a shirt sponsor.
Bodog, described as the world’s largest online betting brand, announced earlier this year they were on the look out for a Premier League clothes peg on which to emblazon their brand and Albion’s soaring finish to the season appears to have done the trick.
The deal even extends the Black Country rivalry – Wolves sponsors are from the same online betting industry – and comes ready-made with what Albion hope will be a happy omen for the club.
Bodog were also the sponsors of Fulham when Albion head coach Roy Hodgson was in charge at Craven Cottage and led the team to a Europa Cup final.
Albion’s tie-in is with Bodog Europe, the official licensee of the Bodog brand for online gaming in Europe, and they will officially become club sponsors from July 1 and will have additional high-profile branding at the Hawthorns.
Bodog Europe will also become the club’s official betting partner, providing Albion fans with a huge online gaming platform.
Albion chief executive Mark Jenkins trumpeted the deal today by saying: “We are delighted to have Bodog on board and, following our most successful Barclays Premier League campaign, there was a great deal of interest in becoming our club sponsor.
“We had a number of options and, in the end, Bodog presented an all-round partnership that best suits both parties.
“We look forward to helping them promote their brand in the Premier League.”
Patrik Selin, chief executive of Bodog Europe, said: “In choosing a sponsorship partner we were looking for a club with a genuine team spirit and we are delighted to have found that in West Bromwich Albion.
“In the social media era, a sponsorship should be about backing the investment with a return commitment to the club and the fans and we are looking forward to working closely with all parties.”
The significance of Albion’s first seven-figure-a-year sponsorship deal will not be lost on the club, after their best-ever Premier League performance last season removed the ‘yo-yo’ label from the Hawthorns.
