Middlesbrough’s sponsorship strategy pays off
Middlesbrough-based consumer financial services organisation, Ramsdens, has signed four-month sponsorship deal with English Championship soccer club Middlesbrough F.C.
The largest family-owned pawnbroker in the UK, Ramsdens has backed the club’s unique shirt sponsorship initiative by signing a four-month, six-figure deal, making it the club’s biggest front of shirt sponsor this season. The deal will see the Ramsdens logo branded on the Boro shirt throughout October, November, December and January.
Middlesbrough’s chief operating officer Neil Bausor expressed his delight of the deal: “This is a fantastic announcement for the club to be making and we naturally appreciate the commitment that Ramsdens has shown. Ramsdens is a genuine Teesside success story. It is a pleasure to be entering a partnership with a national company that has its history firmly on Teesside.”
“We are currently developing with Ramsdens a number of exciting ideas that will engage with the local community which I am sure will be of an interest and very well received. We look forward to working with Ramsdens this season and hopefully many more to follow,” Bausor added.
Stewart Smith, chairman of Ramsdens said: “I’m optimistic that the season will be a successful one for Boro. As a successful North East company ourselves, we saw this as an ideal way of demonstrating our commitment to our local area. We have had a long-standing association with our local community over the past 50 years and we intend to partner MFC in their local community projects throughout the new season. We hope this is the start to a long-lasting partnership with the club.”
Peter Kenyon, Ramsdens’ chief executive, added: “This is a commercial relationship for us. Ramsdens has always been innovative and this has allowed us to do something completely different as a business to help us explain more about what we do. Pawnbrokers remain a mystery to some people who may be surprised at the wide range of services available. Our foreign currency rates are amongst the best in the high street and we offer good, value-for-money, new and second-hand jewellery. We will buy any unwanted gold, silver, or mobile phones and, of course, if you want some extra cash for a short while we offer a pay day loan or pawnbroking loan.”
Ramsdens, one of Teesside’s fastest-growing businesses, has 25 branches in the North East. Although financial details were not disclosed, Middlesbrough F.C. have confirmed on their website that the deal is a six-figure sum. Industry experts believe it to be worth at least US$200,000.
