CAF signs 5-year sponsorship deal with telecom company
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has renewed its partnership with telecommunications company, Globacom, and signed a five-year deal for the annual Glo-CAF Player-of-the-Year Awards, Globacom spokesman Harry Iwuala said in a statement in Lagos on Monday.
Globacom spokesman Harry Iwuala said the partnership deal was signed on Friday in Cairo at the CAF headquarters.
At the occasion, CAF President Issa Hayatou commended Globacom for bringing world attention to African football and players through the annual awards, the statement said.
“We urge Globacom to redouble their efforts to improve upon their past records to make the event amongst the best on the global scene,’’ Hayatou was quoted as saying.
Globacom’s Head of Sponsored Assets, Mrs Omodele Sarafa-Yusuf, assured that the company would add fresh perspective and greater value to the awards during the next five years.
“The extension of this partnership is a demonstration of our willingness to do more for African Football and African youth in partnership with CAF,’’ she said.
CAF Deputy General Secretary, Hicham El Amrani, signed on behalf of the football body while Sarafa-Yusuf signed for Globacom.
Nigeria hosted the maiden edition of the awards in 2005, Ghana followed in 2006 while Togo hosted the 2007 edition.
The 2008 edition was also hosted by Nigeria and Ghana held it in 2009.
