Arsenal.com wins best website award

Arsenal.com has been named Best Sports Website at the 2009 UK Website of the Year awards. The Gunners’ official club website received the highest average rating for content, design and navigation in the sports category after more than 850,000 votes were cast as UK web users selected their favourite websites in 22 categories.
Offering visitors exclusive interviews with players, manager Arsène Wenger and extensive information on the Club and its home Emirates Stadium Arsenal.com acts as a one-stop shop for anything supporters need to know in an accessible format.
“Voters are asked to judge a website on its content, navigation and design and they can award up to five stars for each of these categories,” explained Teun Roks, Project Manager for Website of the Year. “They are also asked if they would recommend a website to friends and family. These four factors are all taken into consideration.
“Judging by the votes cast, the navigation of Arsenal.com is seen as its strongest point. The website is very easy to navigate around and that means that casual visitors to the website, as well as diehard fans, can easily find what they are looking for.
“If you look other sports websites you can see that a lot of them lack easy navigation. Football and other sports clubs have a lot of information to offer and therefore have trouble setting up a clear site structure which is easy to navigate around. Arsenal.com has obviously succeeded in this.”
Arsenal.com Managing Editor Richard Clarke said: “We are very happy to have won this award again. It is also pleasing that our navigation has been singled out for particular praise. We spend much of our time generating content but a significant portion thinking about the best ways in which that content can be seen or read.
“We have broken our monthly record for pages impressions twice during the course of this season, 44,862,641 in August and 45,938,769 in January so Arsenal.com is certainly getting bigger and bigger. We hope this award shows it is getting better and better too.”
