Liverpool FC adds Nokia S40 app to its line-up

The app is designed to enable Liverpool fans in emerging markets to keep up with all the news from their club.

Liverpool FC has released a new app for Nokia Series 40 feature phones, developed by InfoMedia in both free and premium flavours.

Firstly a free app includes current and archived news, fixtures, results, league table positions, stadium / club information and player profiles.

An enhanced, premium app also includes:

  • Match Centre – minute by minute text commentary from every game, covering every development from goals and penalties to substitutions and bookings
  • Exclusive club and player photos
  • Video of the Week – for handsets that are compatible with video streaming – this includes highlights such as goals and exclusive interviews

S40 isn’t a platform you hear a lot of talk about these days – but it was chosen to reach the growing number of users in rapidly growing economies such as China, Indonesia, Nigeria and Brazil, where the feature phone still rules.

Kathy Smith, mobile manager, Liverpool FC said: “We decided to develop for Nokia as we have such a large fan base in so many countries across the world. Nokia handsets are massively popular in the territories where we have a large following. We are really keen to reach the fans on the platforms they are using.”

Michael Tomlins, CEO, InfoMedia said: “Yet again, UK football clubs are leading the way when it comes to expanding consumer apps. Given that the Nokia Store now sees 13 million downloads per day – of which 30% come from Series 40 – and that there has now been more than one billion S40 downloads, it is clear that Liverpool FC understands that exploiting the diversity of platforms is a key channel in communicating its brand globally.”
