Chivas USA Unveils Corona Extra as Official Jersey Sponsor

Club Deportivo Chivas USA of Major League Soccer and Grupo Modelo announced on Wednesday that the logo of Corona Extra, one of the most popular beers in the world, will be featured on the front of all Chivas USA team jerseys in the 2011 MLS season. The new Chivas USA shirts were unveiled on Wednesday at the Standard in downtown Los Angeles that featured players and executives from both companies.
Corona Extra has been the number one imported premium beer in the US for more than a decade and is the top imported beer in 50 of the 170 countries in which it is currently present. This landmark announcement represents the first time Corona Extra is the presenting sponsor of a Major League Soccer, although the brand has a strong presence in the jerseys of Mexico’s major league soccer teams América, Santos, Toluca, Atlante, Atlas, San Luis, Necaxa, and Puebla.
“Corona Extra is one of the best-known and most authentic Mexican brands in the world,” said Antonio Cué, Chivas USA Co-Owner and President. “We are delighted that this partnership will bring together Chivas and Corona, two of the most important and recognized worldwide brands. We’re proud to have Corona Extra join our family and our efforts to bring quality sports and entertainment to fans in Southern California and beyond.”
“Grupo Modelo is known for its sports sponsorships not only in Mexico but all over the world, and this made for us a natural fit between the Mexican-owned Chivas USA and our Corona Extra brand, a premium Mexican beer known worldwide,” said José Parés, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for Grupo Modelo, the leading company in Mexico in beer production, distribution and marketing, and maker of Corona Extra. “We have a long tradition in the Mexican major soccer league and as an official sponsor of our country’s national team. We trust that both our consumers and the Chivas USA fan base will be pleased to see us join forces.”
As part of this multi-year agreement, the Corona Extra logo will appear on Chivas USA team gear, as well as having a significant and visible presence at Chivas USA’s home games and other events. This year’s Chivas USA home jerseys will feature the traditional red and white colors with blue shorts, as well as blue socks. The away kit will also feature the traditional blue jersey, with white shorts and blue socks.
“Everyone at Chivas USA is looking forward to a successful season, turning a new page under Head Coach Robin Fraser, and having this partnership is a perfect way to begin this new era,” said Cué. “Both the Chivas and Corona brands share the vision of growth beyond borders and we believe we’re taking a major step with this agreement.”
Chivas USA continues its preparation for the 2011 Home Opener on March 19 against Omar Bravo and Sporting Kansas City. Season Seats for 2011 are now on sale, with prices remaining at the same low rates as 2010.
