Tottenham Hotspur Announce Investec Sponsor Deal

17 August 2010 2 Comments

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club announced a new shirt sponsorship for all domestic and European cup competitions, with Investec, the international specialist bank and asset manager.

The two-year shirt sponsorship, effective from Season 2010/2011, will see the Investec brand feature on the Tottenham Hotspur shirts in all cup competition matches including European club competitions, FA Cup and League Cup. Investec will become the first brand to appear exclusively on the Club’s cup competition shirts.

Listed on both the London Stock Exchange and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Investec is an international specialist bank and asset manager that provides a diverse range of financial products and services to a select client base in three principal markets, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Australia as well as Botswana, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Canada, Ireland, Jersey, Mauritius, Taiwan, Namibia and Switzerland.

Daniel Levy, Chairman, Tottenham Hotspur, said: “We are delighted to have Investec as our new Club sponsor and partner. Investec is a well respected international specialist bank and asset management company and we shall be working with them to grow their brand internationally.

“We are looking forward to the new season of domestic and European competitions, including the opportunity to qualify for the Champions League. We have a great heritage and record of cup successes and we shall be approaching this season’s competitions with the determination to win silverware.”

Bernard Kantor, Global Managing Director, Investec, commented, “We are thrilled to have this opportunity to partner with Tottenham Hotspur, one of the world’s most famous football clubs and stand alongside the fans in all 2010/2011 cup competitions.

“Tottenham Hotspur has a long history of success in cup competitions and we are delighted to be supporting the future achievements of the Club whilst increasing our brand awareness through the immense reach of domestic and European cup football.

“We share a common goal for high energy performance, a strong team spirit and developing talent. We look forward to an exciting season ahead with Spurs.”

As a business with its origins in South Africa, Investec has many synergies with Tottenham Hotspur which has an established presence in South Africa through its joint academy with Premier Soccer League Champions SuperSport United and several charity and community-based initiatives. The Club also has a growing supporter base throughout the country, having undertaken recent tours in South Africa in 2003 in support of South Africa’s World Cup bid and again in 2007 when they won the Vodacom Challenge.

The Club now has two principal sponsors for the 2010/2011 Season. Last month the Club announced Autonomy as its shirt sponsor for all Premier League matches. The new cup shirt will be worn for the first time during the first leg of the Club’s Champions League qualifying tie against Young Boys in Berne, Switzerland on 17th August 2010. The Club’s home cup shirt featuring the Investec logo will be released for retail sale.

Whilst separating the league/cup audiences is an interesting idea, what do you think about the fact that Spurs fans now have six different shirts to consider this season?

Presumably the fees are on a sliding scale depending on how far Spurs get after last night eh?
